...HISTORY OF ARAM BAGH (RAM BAGH) SINCE MUGHAL TIME
After establishing the foundation of the Mughal Empire in India and setting Agra Fort as its headquarter, the first Mughal emperor Babur constructed Aram Bagh for his leisure. At the eastern side of the garden, between the two viewing pavilions facing the river, there are steps that led to Tahkhana used as Hamam. The rooms of Hamam are in a ruined state now. It is said that while living in Agra, Babur was disappointed with the hot air of Agra and used to relax in a chamber of Tehkhana to protect himself from scorching sunlight during summertime. There is also a square shape seat, made of red sandstone, near the eastern side of the garden. It is said when Jahangir returned after winning Fort of Kangra, he waited in Aram Bagh to enter Agra by auspicious time. He was impressed with this garden and his wife Nur Jahan enhanced the beauty of this garden. Under Maratha rule, the name of the garden changed to Ram Bagh.
